TOKITSUMUGI

"The Grain of Strands From some Moments"
I am guessing thats what Tokitsumugi means, as it happens to be the title of an Art Exhibition in Galeri Petronas (KLCC). It was an Exhibition of Kinetic Sculptures by a japanese guy named Masato Tanaka...

I have to say i was impressed by his kinetic sculputres..as they had flawless and jerkless movements...the majority of them had a driving motor which was pre-programmed using a disc with "taped codes"...so when the light sensors detected these "codes"..the motor drived the main shaft...but the rest of the arms..were not controlled by motor.but by gravity...and counter-weights..

It was the movements of their arms which captured my attention..he must have those counter-weights worked out to the nearest milligram...they were all "handmade"...very well machined parts...
Sadly they dont allow any cameras in the main gallery..but one of his exhibts was on the entrance..we were allowed to take photos of that...
Here are the Titles to his exhibts...(just read the names...)

  1. Bookmark of the Wind
  2. Untie the Sound
  3. Each one (So one by One)
  4. Connecting the Souds of Stars Twinkling
  5. Some Songs from the waves
  6. Before it drops from you hands
  7. Windly Muddler
  8. Even While you blink
  9. Sink in the Sky-about waiting for the tide
  10. The Tail of the wind rounded in my pocket
  11. Wind Drinker
  12. Walking as Counting the Wind

So as you can see it looks more like an album of songs...well its art..its supposed to be like that...
I bet you are all wondering what the hell was i doing in an Art gallery...and that too in KLCC...well i saw the gallery on the way to the cinema...and at first i noticed that they were holding an exhibition on Photojournalism..which records the Malaysia from the time of Independence...so by chance i saw this Jap guyz work..which definetely overshadowed the photojournalism exhibits...

War of the worlds??

This machine was one of the exceptions where the inventor didnt use the "Code Disc" to control the main motor...

Counter-weights..
